Dear Optimists and Other Friends of Kids:
The flag has dropped on the 2009-2010 race to raise $1.1 million for the kids through the Optimist International Foundation. This is not my race. It is OUR race. Together we can meet this challenge – for the kids.
Every dollar is important as we go around the track. If you are one of the many Dime-A-Day donors, we value your participation. We need 100 Dime-A-Day donors in every District. That should be something we can handle on cruise control. Even in our smallest Districts, it’s only 10%. With the help of our Club Foundation Representatives, I believe we can do it. An added bonus, of course, is the opportunity to vote in the Foundation Board election. Those who give at least at the Dime-A-Day level in 2009-2010 will have the opportunity to vote for two members of the Board in 2011.
Our perennial race leaders are members of the Presidents Club. These donors are really the drivers for the Foundation. Committed to giving at least $250 a year, most of them give more. Their generosity makes so many things possible for us – from funding the Optimist International scholarships to helping Clubs start their own charitable projects through the Club Grant Program.
We recognize Clubs as major sponsors for our race. This year we have a racing patch for those Clubs that give an unrestricted gift of a Dollar A Day. The $365 banner patch is awarded only to Clubs.
Perhaps our biggest challenge in the race ahead is the opportunity to fund and name Optimist International scholarships in each District. Several commitments have already been made – but we will need your help to win this lap of the race.

All of our Governors and District Foundation Representatives have committed to start their first lap with a gift in October. Please join in. Our race is on for the kids!
Yours in Optimism,
W. H. “Bill” Teague, President
